If you haven’t experienced a summer storm here in Colorado, it goes something like this: It’s clear and sunny, and you’re out enjoying a nice time on the trail. Slowly some clouds move in, and next thing you know, you feel the breeze picking up. Fast forward only about 10 minutes and the clouds are dark, the wind is powerful, and the raindrops start landing on your shoulders. As quickly as you can get your raingear on or find shelter, the huge raindrops are soaking the earth around you and the sound of the drops hitting the ground mix in with the wind, so it’s hard to hear the person next to you. And then it’s gone. The drops lighten up to a drizzle, the wind dies down, and in no time at all the sun is shining again, warming you up that you can’t get your rain gear off fast enough.

Mountain storms are powerful things, and our guides and wranglers are watching the weather every day to make sure we keep our staff and guests safe in all conditions. Sometimes this means changing a route or planning a different departure time to ensure we avoid lightening or other weather risks. You can relax, knowing that we’ve got our eyes on the forecast and the sky, and that we’ll make sure you get home safely with a wild story of a mountain storm to remember!
